At Madeira Street we take seriously Jesus' command to "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation ... they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." (Mark 16v15 & 18)
We pray for the sick after Sunday meetings.
We open the Church for prayer on Tuesday mornings
We go out into the city centre on Saturday evenings and pray for passers by.
We can not guarantee that everyone will be healed, but we do see many people with amazing stories of healing.
One precious story from the street is of one of the homeless people on Rose Street. We always take time to talk to and pray for homeless people that are around, if they would like. Two of the team talked to a man begging just by where we were set up. He had poisoned feet, which is frequently a problem for homeless people that's very difficult for the medical profession to treat. As the homeless live lives not suited for healing of such a disease, it can often become very serious, causing hospitalisation or even the loss of feet. Although he had been on medication for some time it remained unchanged. He let the team pray for him and they then continued on their way. When the team met him the next week, he was overjoyed and wanted to thank the team. His feet were completely healed.
Many people like this man see the healing later after the team pray, but for others the healing can be seen instantaneously.
One boy was standing around while his granny was being prayed for. As we kept him company we found that he has problems with his spine because of a trampoline accident. He had an inflamed disc and poor mobility in his neck. As we prayed with him he felt a strange feeling in his back and wondered what it was. We assured him that it was Jesus healing him and asked him how his back was. He was unsure. We asked him to move his neck and to his great surprise he could move it much more freely. When we asked about pain from the inflamed disc, that too was gone.
